I have to admit that I am not really a major coffee drinker. While I do enjoy a good cup of coffee (with plenty of cream and sugar to accompany…and perhaps some caramel flavoring…yum) I do not generally make myself coffee on a regular basis. I think we bought our first coffee maker when a friend of ours was coming to visit who is a coffee junkie (you know who you are lol). It is a 4 cup machine that has never given us any problems and is actually just the right size IMO (In My Opinion for all you non-blog/IM junkies out there) for one person to have two cups of coffee…making it pretty perfect for me, but not if we have company.

When we moved into our rental house, the previous renters left behind a 12 cup coffee maker. It had a timer and auto-shut off…and was quite great in it’s youth. But it had been around the block and seen some hard times. It leaked and took forever to brew a cup of coffee, so when we moved in here I finally trashed it. I figure a new house deserves a new coffee maker. And having it leak all over the cardboard boxes covering the kitchen cabinets was just not working at all. So I went back to the little 4 cup one…and my in-laws, being fed up with waiting for 45 minutes in the morning to have fresh coffee when they come visit, promised me a new machine. ๐Ÿ™‚

When we went down to visit them this weekend, they had it there waiting. I actually didn’t fully expect a new machine and would have been happy with the one they replaced in their own kitchen…but they weren’t having that!

This is my new machine. It is a Cloer 5020 and looks very sophisticated. I have to admit I haven’t taken it out of the box yet but I kinda want to christen the new counter top with this lovely new appliance so I’m holding out. One really nice feature is that if you pull the pot out while it’s brewing, it stops. Very good when you don’t want to wait! ๐Ÿ™‚ This company also makes some much more fancy machines, such as the 5739 which actually has a built in Britta water filter. Cloer also makes a slew of other appliances which you can learn more about on their website (Germany only at the moment but an English version is said to be coming soon).
