So our assignment this week for You Capture was flowers. When Stefan asked about the topic, and I said flowers…he sorta scoffed at me. Great time of year for flowers, right? But even though fall is clearly all around us and some of the trees have incredible washes of color already, there are surprisingly still tons of flowers to photograph. Many of them came late…and others are just getting started. So I let my man steal my camera for a bit and he actually contributed the first four of these photos…but I pointed out most of the good flowers to use to him. We’re a good team, what can I say?
If you want to learn to use your camera more or are just looking for an excuse to go out and shoot things, be sure to check out Beth’s page about how you can also participate in You Capture each week.
I wish you could see just how huge this sunflower is…the center part alone has to be at least a foot across! Sure hope the guy who planted this is going to save some seeds!
We’ve been trying to catch one of these very allusive white butterflies most of the summer…and then one was just there waiting for Stefan!
The hibiscus seemed to have bloomed super late this year. Of course our harvest season has been way off this year anyway.
Mackenzie absolutely loves smelling flowers. And it’s just about the cutest thing ever! We made her smell this one over and over until he got the right shot. The next day we walked by there, she had to smell it some more.
I love the delicateness of this flower.
And you’d think this is mostly Photoshop but these flowers really are this color!
Now I don’t actually know if these qualify as flowers (because I don’t really even know what the plant is) but they are too cool and they’re pink so I figure they must fall into the flower category.
And finally another photo of Mackenzie with her cow, who also got to stop and smell a few flowers with us.
Happy shooting!
Too hard to pick a favorite! I would love to be able to see just how big that sunflower is – thanks for explaining! Wow! The pictures of your daughter smelling the flower and letting her cow smell the flower are too cute. The plant with those purple/pint berry/flower things might be my favorite of the set though – so different! I love the orange flowers blurry in the background!
Ah, I miss flowers! Things don’t grow in Houston like they grown in Oregon (especially in the Spring…how I miss my crocus and tulips!). These are lovely pics. 🙂
I loved the pink flowers that you questioned the identity of and said they might just be weeds. They remind me a little of Persicaria amplexicaule except for the foliage which is very different. What is the difference between a weed and a flower? I say none since beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I took two classes in plant identification as electives while attending college. I have a deep appreciation for nature and don’t mind looking closely at the local plants so I can fully appreciate the beauty of sometimes very tiny flowers. We live in a world full of beauty.
You are so right, Charlie. That is part of the reason I really enjoy these photo challenges because it gives me a reason to look at things more closely…and stop to notice some other unusual things that I might otherwise just sorta breeze over. Some of the most lovely flowers around here are just weeds…but don’t tell Mackenzie! She makes lovely bouquets with them. I think it’s a matter of where they pop up that really classifies them as weeds or not…cause I’d prefer them not to visit my garden…but in the wild, they are incredible! 🙂
Flowers? What are those? All of mine burned to the lack of rain. The shenandoah valleys trees are going straight from green to brown n falling already. I guess I shouldnt complain…traffic should be easier going to my moms when the city folk want to go up on the drive!
beautiful capture of flowers in early fall.
I love the sunflower!
Very nice. You made those otherwise very common orange marigolds look very interesting. Your daughter sniffing the flower and the picture under it are two of my favorites. But the hubby’s sunflower with the blurred background is good, too.
The sunflower!!! Just wow! I love the other shots too 😉
Beautiful pictures! We definitely still have flowers here in Texas. We practically have to wait until the end of November for fall 🙁
Great pictures, especially of Mackenzie in B/W……The flowers in Kodiak,Alaska are so vivid and bright as they have a short blooming period like you have over there in Germany. I am so proud of you loving flowers and plants/trees and nature.God has blessed us all and we are so amazed daily of God’s grace and mercy.
Honey…you have truly mastered the art of photography. Your father always had a knack for it and took pictures of just about everything! I remember when he turned 40 and couldn’t figure out why his photos were all out of focus. After determining it was not the camera lens, he had his eyes checked to discover he needed reading glasses.
Love you my child…blessings.
