Today we harvested gooseberries from the bush in our garden. It’s amazing how much fruit was packed on this one bush. It’s actually about 4 kilos (9 pounds) of berries so now we’re trying to figure out what we will do with all this fruit. We don’t eat too many preserves so that isn’t really ideal for us. But we are thinking that perhaps we will use at least part of them to try our first attempt at making wine. We are hoping to harvest several kilos of grapes in the fall from our grape vines. The fruit was very tasty last year but the birds ate most of them. This year we intend to cover them before that can happen!
And this is our first chili. We weren’t really certain it was done but it hasn’t grown in a while so we figure that is a sign that it’s done. Plus they say Turkish Sweet peppers should be pale yellow in color and about 2-3 inches…and ours is about 4 inches and couldn’t be any paler. Since we had the scale out, we weighed it also – 48 grams. Not sure what we’ll make with it yet but it smells delicious.
The other plants and chilies are doing very nicely in the greenhouse. I have some photos to post which I will try to do later. Most of the tomatoes have blooms now as do the eggplants. The zucchini and cucumbers are getting huge and we are thinking of moving a few out into a bed just to see which fair better. We will probably have a few zucchini ready in the next few weeks and lots more coming.
good luck with all those gooseberries.
Both the Zuchini and cucumbers should do well outside. My tomatoes are setting fruit outside but have suffered a bit of damage from the wind in the last week.
Next year we’re absolutely going to grow the zucchini and cucumbers outside. They just need a lot more space that what we can give them inside the greenhouse and there are plenty of other things we’d rather try in there. Our learning experience year – what can we say? 🙂
