It has been pretty quiet for a while from us and if you read my last post about playing with chalk you know why. It’s now official – Stefan is changing jobs and will have three months of vacation, starting this week. This means we will finally have time to start on the guest house.

As usual, our plans are grand and our budget is not, but so far it looks like we have finally learned to budget things correctly. What used to be our horse stables will now become a small, but luxurious, guest house. Actually, coming to think of it, it will actually be nicer than our own bedroom. We want to keep all the details and little hidden features of this room under wraps until it’s all done, but it will be worth the journey. Did I mention that we are planning to do 90%+ of the work ourselves for a change?

Now that vacation has started the first huge order from Hornbach is ordered and will be delivered next Tuesday. This order includes the stuff to insulate the roof, some scaffolding which we got a great price on and a frosted glass door for the bathroom which only cost EUR59. Even the sales guy was surprised at that price since they normally retail at over EUR200. Tomorrow we will place another large order of supplies with our local hardware store (most of the stuff for drywalling) and Macky will pay us a visit on October 13th to complete all the required plumbing.

We have spent the last few days getting ready and gathering supplies – As well as finally fixing the exterior base wall (more on that later). We should be finished with the outside work by the end of the weekend and on Tuesday will start removing all the stuff still in the stables, in the afternoon supplies will come and then we have to race to stud the place out before Macky comes early Saturday morning.

Exciting times indeed!
