Our topic was a little unusual this week, and I nearly sat down with a dictionary to try to jump start my brain for “L-words.” But once I got going, it became pretty easy and quite fun. I have to admit that in the end this was a really enjoyable challenge.

One of the first things to came to mind was my Land Rover badge on the Defender. Definitely an “L” there.

I’ve decided to do something a little different this time around, which is post some of my SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) shots and then my edits since I love playing around with them so much in Photoshop and Lightroom. But I’ve started shooting more often on AV lately and even over the usual P setting of my camera it makes a massive difference. I’m sort of a trial and error learner when it comes to my camera, mostly because the majority of the material I read about photography basics just makes me go cross-eyed.

Here’s a bit of our lamb’s lettuce that amazing has grown all winter long inside our covered salad table. I figure I should harvest this stuff soon and get some new seeds in the ground for the rest of the winter…the spinach is loving it in there too. I just held my camera down near the lettuce and fired away for this shot since I couldn’t get close to it over the edge of the cold frame.

SOOC -- F4.5, ISO 200, 1/80 sec

Same shot after running it through Photoshop with the “Colorized” action from The Pioneer Woman & MCP.

And as I sat as my desk yesterday, I realized there’s been an “L” word staring me in the face…the lampshade and lamp. Two “L” really. It’s something we inherited with our house and the bottom part is cast iron — definitely sturdy enough to used as a weapon! I just thought the light was great yesterday morning when I shot it.

And again after running the “Heartland” action and tweaking it a bit.
