I just finished reading Cityboy: Beer and Loathing in the Square Mile by Geraint Anderson. I have barely been able to put it down the last few days, eager to learn how this poor sap’s life turns out, what happens with his insane bet against a fellow analyst and how he finally manages to break free from the City. Unfortunately my thirst for knowledge has been very much postponed by frequent feedings, play sessions and me sometimes stopping to shove something in my face.

Stefan brought the book home a few months ago after a trip to London and was really enthralled with it. So I picked it up one morning after we brought Mackie home from the hospital (the first time). If I’d had it to read while I was waiting to get out of there, I’m sure I would have finished it then. I tried to finish it while we were in the hospital between the holidays…but just didn’t quite find enough time.

Cityboy is the wild tale of one analyst who entered into the world of stockbrokers and went from a fun loving hippie to a big swinging dick (with emphasis on the dick part). Some might find the book really far fetched…but anyone who has worked in the business knows otherwise. Whether it’s all true or not – well only one person really knows, but it’s certainly easy to see why he got out of the business when he did.

Cityboy is highly entertaining and really hard to put down once you get going. A few times I was wondering what in the world the author was talking about in his British English – but thankfully you still manage to get the point based on the other sentences around it.

Read it, shake your head in disbelief and then go buy something from Newf Brand so yet another City boy (my husband) can break free from the chains that are the finance world.
