I arrived at the house at about 2 pm today because we had yet another container delivered. Since we destroyed our bathroom last weekend (yes the photos are coming soon), we decided we better order another container so we could throw everything away…although I’m sure it would have been fun to try to fit the sink or toilette in our trash can…and imagine the trash collectors’ surprise when they saw that avocado green stuff falling out of there. It would have taken us weeks if not months to get rid of it all.

Since I still had some work to get done for the week that didn’t require the Internet, I worked on that for a while. The container arrived at 3 pm and was delivered by our friend Rudi. The guy has more power that you could ever imagine and masks it well behind his substantial beer belly. He’s a super nice guy and constantly tries to sell us one of his crazy horses but since we have a crazy almost horse already, we have to pass at this time.

We were also hoping that someone from the phone might come by today or that the equipment to hook up the phone would have arrived by now. As soon as we have the phone line in, we can order DSL which should make our long weekends here much nicer and even more productive.

I finished up my work around 3:30 and decided to start working around the house by emptying the 2 trash cans we filled up last week. Why would I empty trash cans that are already full, you ask? Here in this are (and in our previous house as well) you have various trash cans of various colors for various trash (black for regular trash, blue for paper, green for bio and so on). We happened to have 2 empty trash cans last weekend so we filled them up with as much stuff as they would hold…which happened to be a lot of the ceiling tiles but not much of anything else. So the bathtub became the trash receptacle for everything else.

Once I had the trash cans emptied into the container, which required taking most of it by hand since it’s incredibly heavy, I figured I might as well start on everything piled in the bathtub. So I found a bucket and my dust pan and went to work. The sink and toilette and other fixtures were piled on top of everything but I was thankfully able to just move them aside as I rather quickly emptied the tub. Within 2 hours, I had everything out and had vacuumed as well. Talk about shock and surprise on hubby’s face when I told him I’d already wrapped that up and he wouldn’t have to spend part of his Friday evening after a long day of work scooping out trash.

Tomorrow we will start cleaning stuff out of the Newfie room and climbing room in the barn. These areas are of course not vital to have cleaned out but we have the container here already and every piece less that we have to look at makes a vast improvement. So I guess we’ll see how many rooms of junk we can pile in this container.

Since we filled up the container so quickly last weekend and still have a whole lot more stuff to toss out, we ordered another container for this weekend so we have some place to put some of the remaining junk. I almost can’t believe that we’re on our second container already because when we got the first one I remember thinking that we wouldn’t be able to fill it up very quickly. Boy, was I wrong. I’m sure that we had a way to compact the trash we end up throwing in there we would be able to get more in there but they charge by the weight and not the volume so we must be better off this way lol.

I went to the house today to have the new container delivered. I got to meet yet another driver who I thought looked a bit like Robbie Williams and was probably about his height as well. I was hoping he could set the container down a bit further on the property since we still have a lot of things to bring out of the attic and wanted to be able to get by the container carrying a piece of furniture but it wasn’t a possibilty because the crane arm they use wouldn’t clean the gutters on the hay loft. Go figure…but I’m sure it will still work out ok if we manage to get that far.

The game plan this weekend is to continue where we left off last time. We still need to empty the rest of the junk from the workshop which will be the new office & kitchen. We need everything out of there by October 1st at the latest because that is when we hope to begin construction…assuming the architect starts getting in bids soon and doing his job finally. Luckily the family had a set of blueprints from a previous addition to the house and we can save a little money there because we would have needed a full set for the house for the construction project. We will still need plans for the attic and probably the workshop too but at least it should be considerably less.

It should be another full weekend and hopefully we won’t be so exhausted this time around when the weekend is over…
