For almost a year now (since we started construction and put in the new windows and doors in the kitchen) we’ve had big gray areas on the walls of the house where everything was patched up. We’ve gotten so used to them we started to think it might look strange if they disappeared.

And then we tore apart the exterior wall and put it back together again which left the area by the front door looking like this…

So today while Stefan was knocking out windows, I got started on painting. We were a bit concerned about how well the new color would match the old since we didn’t really want to have to paint the second floor of the house just yet. It turns out the color couldn’t have matched much better. The left side of the photo has the old paint, ending under the left window.

Here’s a shot looking down the courtyard. You can just glimpse the doors and windows of the kitchen. I’ll have to take some more photos tomorrow of everything….

The paint really integrates the addition into the main house. We’re looking forward to doing the lower darker portion of the wall tomorrow. We selected a color which very closely matches the sandstone found here and there along the base of the house. We’re thinking it will be a really nice change for the house.
