The You Capture theme for this week was summertime, and for some reason I had a harder time visualizing what that would be than usual. Strangely enough, our summer has been rather usual. The most bizarre summer we’ve had here in Germany actually. We’ll have a few days of 95+ degrees F, then it will rain a bit and we’ll have highs in the 70’s, then it will get hot again. This morning, it’s maybe 60 degrees and rather chilly in the house. And yesterday our neighbors actually had their chimney going. I seriously don’t even know what to put on in the morning with the weather flip-flopping around all the time.
For me, the first sign of summer is the fact that I can start wearing flip-flops again. Oh how I love them. And toe rings. In fact, I have been wearing flip-flops so often this summer that I actually have tan lines on my feet which has never happened to me, not even while living in Miami! It might have something to do with wearing a lot more Tevas this year which I didn’t have so many of last year. Gotta love end of season clearance! 😉
As I mentioned, the weather this summer has been a bit strange. So we’ve had a lot of reasons to pull out the rain gear and go looking for puddles. Unfortunately even when it drizzles all day, there are seldom puddles. But Mack still thoroughly enjoys wearing her rain pants, galoshes and carrying her umbrella anyway.
Summertime is also a moment for travel, with people visiting us and us taking a few little trips ourselves. We took a moment to head down to Rüdesheim (wine country) and actually snuck in a quick family photo — which we honestly have very few of.
What else does summertime mean? ICE CREAM of course! No hot summer day is allowed to pass without ice cream or popsicles. It’s a tough job for Mack to remind us all the time, but honestly she’s greatly enjoying the rewards.
If you’d like a reason to use your camera more often and would like to join in the You Capture fun — or just want to see more pretty pictures of flowers, make sure you hop over to I Should Be Folding Laundry and peruse all the other links!
Love the photo of the flip-flops – that certainly says SUMMER to me! 🙂 But best of all was seeing a family photo. Isn’t it funny how you have to remember to make those happen? It’s the same thing with us/our extended family. The puddle photo is adorable as well – she’s getting so big!
For me capturing summertime takes senses other than visual. I was raised in a rural area in the days before air conditioning was common place and on a warm summer evening sundown would find the family enjoying the cool of the porch, engaging in conservation, and listening to the concert provided by the tree frogs and katydids that inhabited the trees of our yard.
A glass of iced tea with a sprig of mint and the smell of freshly cut grass still evoke these memories. 🙂
Those flip flops definitely say summer. Cute photo! She’s adorable with her umbrella too!
Great summery shots!
Great pictures of Y’all and Mackenzie with umbrella and Ice cream. Gosh, She has grown and her eyes are beautiful.Wish I could have bought that for her. God Bless…..
We’ve had the same kind of weather in Romania. And I’m SO ready for the rain to blow in some cooler weather tomorrow. Galoshes, here we come!
