Sometimes, it’s nice to get away without the kids, don’t you think? Even if you’re a “natural” parent and love every moment you can spend with your children, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting a few days (or longer) to reconnect with your other half, without the risk of tantrums, late night crying and diffusing situations caused by the inability to share.
Whether you opt for a fly cruise or a cruise and stay, there are many cruising options available for just the grownups, giving the perfect atmosphere to relax, unwind and enjoy your other half’s company without a care in the world.

Leave your kids in the capable hands of the grandparents and enjoy some “you” time. It’s important for adults to give themselves time to escape from the daily grind – especially when life has been extra hectic. While many cruises nowadays provide facilities, and sometimes even whole decks, for families and children, there are still some available that cater only to adults.
Great value provider, Thomson, offers adult-only cruises throughout the year, although times, destinations and ships tend to change. If you’re interested in a low-priced escape with Thomson, be sure to keep your eyes open for any adult-exclusive deals that may crop up in due course.
Similarly, budget-friendly P&O cruises offer cruises perfect for over-18s, with three liners being exclusively for grownups. The Oriana, Adonia and Arcadia provide adult-only itineraries that include Northern Europe as well as the white sandy shores of the Caribbean.
Meanwhile, the more luxurious liners, such as those provided by Silversea, don’t recommend children at all. Their facilities and amenities aren’t aimed towards children either, so chances are it’ll just be over-18s on their worldwide cruises.
If you don’t manage to book an adult-only cruise, all is not lost. Many ships provide adult-only facilities such as separate pool areas, spa treatments and relaxation zones to help keep you as stress-free as possible. And if you don’t have family or a babysitter along for the cruise, they even offer entertainment packages and babysitting services both day and night to keep your kids amused and give you some personal time.
I’ve personally never been on a big cruise ship, but I like the idea of their all-inclusive packages and the sunny, tropical locations many of them head to (especially when it’s the dead of winter here in Berlin!) And when you live close to a port city (which we did in Miami), it can be incredibly cheap to just catch a quick last minute cruise, even if it’s only for a short weekend trip.
Are you a fan of cruises?
