We have lots of space for herbs in our garden and several herbs are already thriving there. Our lavender bushes have come back nicely and even the small one I moved is starting to show some signs of life. The bay leaves we transplanted are also doing very well and we have another unidentified herb (sage perhaps?) which has sprung back to life after the transplant even though I thought I had completely killed it. But the few we do have are never really going to be sufficient for everything we use at the moment and eventually more plants like thyme, rosemary and oregano will be added to the garden.

I got a newsletter from HGTV Gardening yesterday and saw a link to a beverage garden. Interesting concept, I thought, so I read on. What they have done is focus on herbs such as lavender, bergamot, mint and a few other herbs which you can grow and then use to give water or seltzer a kick. Or if you’ve got an overage of limes and mint, you can make yourself a mojito.

I’ve personally always really wanted to get a lemon tree and see how it turns out. I figure that inside our greenhouse it could do rather well and it could be really fun. Plus there are few things better than fresh lemonade, especially when it’s made from your own lemons and sweetened with stevia you grew yourself. 😉 If you’d like to make lavender lemonade without the fresh herbs, just give this recipe a try.
