We’ve been back in Florida about 1 1/2 years now (hard to imagine) and Ayla’s skin and and coat have seen a bit of turmoil. It’s hard for a dog with that much fur to avoid having issues in a climate like Southern Florida — but thankfully she does appreciate the air conditioning quite a bit.

One thing we have found to work incredibly well at fighting off itchy skin is this super cute and really awesome Doggie Dope Soap…on a Rope. It’s made by a local husband and wife team who just love making soap — and they’re pretty darn good at it too!

We first discovered their soaps when we first moved here and they have a killer Tea Tree Peppermint which Stefan absolutely loves…and soaps shaped like turtles. But now we’ve found one of our favorite soaps, simple because it keeps Ayla from scratching day and night!

As you saw in the photo above, Doggie Dope Soap looks like a huge bone. The bar is pretty big in your hand and easy to hang on to — especially when you put the rope around your wrist. I use the bar to scrub the soap into Ayla’s coat which makes the process fairly quick and easy.

The makers recommend that for maximum performance of oils, you can let the lather stay on your pup for 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing clean. We sort of just lather her up all over, and then rinse.

After use, hang soap up on faucet or hook in bathroom to drip dry! (The soap — not your dog!)

These soaps are packed full of great oils for your dog’s coat, with no propylene glycol or harsh ingredients. This particular “strain” of Doggie Dope is infused with Lemongrass Essential Oil, which can be helpful in preventing ticks & fleas. Lemongrass is also a very fresh & uplifting oil.

In fact, the stuff you’ll find in this soap is all human friendly too — including coconut, Vitamin E, sustainable palm, safflower, and hemp oil, oats, & lemongrass essential oil.
