Today was a pretty big day for Ayla. She got her first real swim at the lake near us. We went out there around 7 pm knowing that a lot of people would be going home already and dogs are not technically allowed to swim there lol. There is a relatively good place to go in at the furthest end of the beach with a grass entrance and a pretty gradual place to get in. I went in before her and she had a little hesitation about going in because she couldn’t see the bottom but I put my hand out in the water so she could see it. She came in fairly quickly after that and was swimming after me as I moved into deeper water. No fear at all, she went in and out of the water on her own quite a bit after that and didn’t really want to leave when it was time to go…so we will definitely have to find ways to get her out there more often and find a place where she an swim freely without us constantly watching and waiting for someone to say something to us.

After the swim, we went for a walk around the lake to wear her out a bit and then over to one of the local beer gardens. We used to go there pretty often last year and were disappointed that even though they had quite a few items (umbrellas, glasses and such which are usually given to them from the brewery) from our favorite weissbier brewery, Schneider Weisse, they didn’t have the beer. Talk about disappointments. So this year we noticed quite a few new things from the company and were hoping they had gotten their agreement set up again with them…and we were in luck. So we had a nice relaxing dinner with our Schneider Weisse and a big salad with strips of steak on it. Ayla got to meet the resident doggy at the restaurant and another German Shepard type dog came over to visit her also and had been whimpering to get closer the whole time he was there.

All in all it was a very nice evening and we were very pleased with our little swimmer. Unfortunately we didn’t get any pictures but next time…;-)
