The American journalist Ellen Goodman once said,
“Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for – in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.”
Now I don’t know about you…but even if that IS the idea of “normal” that we have come to accept in modern society, I certainly don’t care to live that way. Does that really seem like a logical, efficient, HAPPY way to live your life?
If you think for even a second that it must be the “right” way since that’s what everyone else is doing…I hate to break it to you, but you’re wrong. So what if everyone else is doing it? Are we all part of a herd of buffalo that has been spooked and is about to go over the cliff?
Not everyone has entrepreneurship in their hearts and minds. But because you are reading this right now, I’ll bet you’ve wondered what it would be like to be your own boss. And if you could make it if you set up that business with your best friend that the two of you have talked about for months (or even years). Well you can and you will succeed if you think things through, plan it out and implement your plan quickly and efficiently. If you’re the type that wants to think it all through and map it all out first, there are also business consultants to help you do just that — or to get a failing company back on track.
You don’t need a huge a bank roll to start every company. In fact, most of the businesses my husband and I have started together began with little or no capital. When we were just starting out, we had no other choice. And now we do it to see if it could be done — and because we know that you don’t need millions or even thousands to get your dreams off the ground. It’s always better to be able to reinvest the capital you create from your new venture than to go into debt with an idea which may or may not catch on for a while.
Make 2012 your year of change for the better…a year full of success and joy over all the world throws your way. You can create your own happiness and live a more fulfilled life. All you need to do is apply yourself. Because in most cases, nothing is just going to be handed to you.
There are times in life when we must decide whether we are going to lead or follow. Will you lead yourself into new unchartered waters this year? Will you make a commitment to strive to do more to achieve your dreams and set baby steps which will help you reach your ultimate goals? Are you ready to put aside your fears and just grab the opportunities that pass nearby…and create opportunities if they don’t just materialize?
