There are so many terms thrown around online and offline these days that some terms start to be vague. I have been trying to live with purpose and intention for the last few years, being more mindful of my actions and focusing on the things that will bring the most benefit and make me and my family happy and successful. But some of you may not be familiar with, or have even heard of intentional living or living with purpose. So I created this list of 10 things that you need to know about intentional living which may help you create your own intentional habits and start achieving your goals.

How to live your life with purpose

  1. You choose your lifestyle of intentional living. Your path may be spawned by religious or ethical values, coaching, personal transformation or leadership training, and it may just be one person, a family or a group of people who live this way. But the directions your choose are your own which will lead to your goals.
  2. You stand by your fundamental beliefs and live with conviction. You have to be willing to take steps and to behave in such a way that your beliefs are reflected in your conscious actions and environment, all the time.
  3. You have a vision for what you want your life to be. You take actions to create a course for your life, ultimately implying that you have a sense of direction that you want to move in.
  4. Trust in yourself. When a new situation arises you may not know immediately what to do, but give yourself a moment of reflection and your inner voice or inner being will give you a sense of what is right or wrong for you. It can tell you whether you are in the right place and the right time or not and if not, help you to go about with changing it.
  5. Stay the path. As you move along, navigating your own path, you have the freedom to alter and shift without losing focus and keeping attention on what you desire for your life to arrive where you want your life to go.
  6. You won’t let yourself be held back by limitations or nay-sayers. There is no room for doubt and any limitations that pull you down or prevent you from succeeding are created solely by your mind and your belief. Block the doubters from your life and focus on the positives.
  7. You are in control. You cannot allow your life to be controlled by the circumstances of the past. You have a choice and a say in how you want your life to turn out. You shouldn’t settle with negative patterns in your life because every day is an opportunity.
  8. Know your true self. Your passions, talents, abilities, strengths and weaknesses make you who you are. Giving these time and energy is one of the most valuable things you can do for yourself.
  9. Do not live your life trying to compare how others have lived theirs. You have your own life, live it the way you want.
  10. Choose a life of choice rather than of chance. Compose a flexible framework of short-term and long-term goals that help to keep you moving in the right direction. A certain degree of consciousness and commitment is needed to succeed with intentional living so that your life will unfold the way you want it to unfold.
