We got quite a bit done yesterday and were both quite tired when we called it quits in the evening. But our hard work has really started to pay off and the light at the end of the tunnel is definitely getting closer.

Stefan focused adding a few more corner profiles and spackling some of the holes Covey left behind. Then he switched over to sealing the corners of the rooms with acrylic which seems like a never ending task…but thankfully he finished almost all of them before we ran out of acrylic.

While he was doing those tasks, I continued sanding the walls and ceiling down…and when I just couldn’t take any more of the monotony – I started painting. I managed to get a majority of the walls painted and only need to do the ceiling in the bedroom now as well as all the trim. Still a long way to go but at least the process goes rather quickly.

Here’s the bathroom wall when we started in the morning. Stefan had already redone the edges of this wall which you can see at the top of the wall there because the spackle was still wet.

After one coat of paint it was starting to look better and much more like a “real” room…

But once the other walls had been painted too and a second coat was added, things really started looking good.

The bedroom looked like this in the morning. Stefan’s corner profile work can be seen on the doorway there. Some of the old photos probably show how bad it looked in there but the edges were completely jagged here.

And after a coat of paint, it was again looking like another room altogether.

But we realized stark white is not going to cut it in here. We have a LOT of ceiling spots in these rooms and with all the light pouring out of them it’s just going to be too bright with white walls. So this morning when we ventured out to IKEA (we scoped out the bed situation and found that they have everything in stock so we actually don’t need to pick everything up until next week) and Hagebau, we picked some paint color samples. Not when we go out to the guest house to start the wall tile, we can take a few pieces of our laminate and floor tile and hopefully find a few wall colors that will tie everything together….Lots of tiling and painting in our future of the next few days…and a few more trips to the home improvement store too!
