It’s been a couple weeks since this took place, but what can I say; I’ve been busy as usual. Friends of ours have a son who is about a month younger than Mackenzie, but you can’t tell by looking at him. He’s going to start walking any day now and has been standing on his own for several weeks. He’s just adorable and actually really hard to photograph because usually he just gets this wide-eyed blank stare on his face when you pull out the camera. A bit different from Mackenzie’s smiles and poses. ๐Ÿ™‚

Meet Liam. Stefan calls him Little Jay-Z because he looks quite a bit like him, especially when he’s giving you one of his dead stares.

Since most babies don’t really play with each other, even at one year of age, I waited for a long time to introduce Mack to another baby. It wasn’t because she wasn’t interested in other kids, though. Usually when we see other kids out somwhere, she is totally fascinated by them. But unfortunately I have not been able to find so many new moms in our immediate area with kids who Mackenzie can play with. I’m sure that will change as she gets a bit older…especially at the age of 3 when she’s able to start going to kindergarten.

The kiddos weren’t really sure what to do with each other. There was a lot of watching each other going on and even some mimicking.

Mackenzie always looked like she was trying to lecture Liam about something. Toy safety, perhaps. Or maybe she was telling him about which of his toys were the tastiest.

Ah, the facial expressions of tiny children. It’s almost as if Mackenzie is wondering if Liam can fit that whole block in his mouth. Or maybe she was just wondering if he was done with the blue one yet so she could snag it. ๐Ÿ™‚

The two of them managed to go through most of the toys in Liam’s room although Liam was generally the one pulling stuff out and sort of showing it off to Mackenzie. It was interesting for me to see such a different variety of toys compared to what we have at home. And I’m definitely going to be stealing at least one decor idea from his room: I love that green furry rug, and Liam also has a foam mattress in one corner of his room with pillows and stuffed toys on it. Mack already has a huge stuffed animal corner…but the mattress would complete it and make it a whole lot safer for her to play.

The kiddos seemed to have a great time and I hope we can get together at least once a month for more play sessions. It’s fun not only for the kids but for the moms too. And I know it’s going to be fascinating to watch their relationship develop as the months pass, watching them going from playing alone, to starting to interact, and then actually fully playing together. Many fun times ahead!!
