After all the deliveries this morning, we got motivated and the weather is turning nicer as well. It’s clearing up and we can actually see the sun now and the temps have climbed from the low 40’s to the high 50’s.

Our to do list for the day:

  • Remove steel divider
  • Remove water pipe that gave us trouble yesterday
  • Clean out all the glass, bricks and junk
  • Set up scaffolding
  • Remove wooden beams
  • Start roof insulation

So far we have knocked two of those things off our list. The steel divider and the water pipe.

We where extremely worried about the steel divider, it was bricked into the wall and actually required us to cut the four steel pipes in the wall, and four more in the floor. Thankfully we found (unfortunately not before cutting two of them needlessly) that the floor mounts where just resting on ground.

As always kids, remember to wear your eye protection and protective clothing. The sparks go flying everywhere. It really is quite an intimidating project. But other then that, the cutting disks went through the steel like a hot knife through butter. Oh, Speaking of hot. Definitely wear gloves when touching the metal after cutting, it gets piping hot from the friction.

The next step was to carry the divider outside. This was our second point of concern. The divider is made from solid steel and weights a ton. We where worried we couldn’t carry it, but with a lot of huffing and puffing we managed to carry it outside.

After recovering a bit we moved on to the next step – the pipe which caused us so much trouble yesterday. Stefan had looked at these types of fitting at Hagebau this morning and now had a better idea of which side is supposed to turn. I am happy to say that after spending more than an hour on it yesterday we where able to break it down in less than 10 minutes today.

Now it’s time for a little break while we wait for the container which should be here any minute now. Then it’s on to the rest of the list.
