Well, the first day is drawing to a close. We have made some progress already cleaning things up although we are no where near being able to let Ayla wander around freely yet. There is still too much trash around and there are piles of bird guano everywhere since no one has been cleaning up after them for the past 9 months. Obviously, we can’t have her cleaning all those piles up for us, especially with things like bird flu still in existence, so we keep her tethered to the front steps most of the time or somewhere else close to us but still out of the way.

She is very calm most of the time and rarely makes a fuss about having to amuse herself while we work. Hubby smartly researched the area around the house during the week on Google maps so we at least had an idea of where to take her. It turns out there is a path just 2 blocks down the road which leads to some old apple orchards and farming area so that is a very nice path to take her along and we essentially have all the free apples we could ever want. Most of them are not quite ripe yet but still taste quite good and Ayla also enjoys eating them.

One fun thing that Ayla did get to do today (or so it seemed to us) was play in her new doggie hole. The previous owners have dug out an area about 4 feet long, 3 feet wide and 2-3 feet deep and lined it with concrete. So this is an obvious place for Ayla to hang out it when there is water in it, which tends to be often because it doesn’t drain very quickly. Unfortunately, I wasn’t watching her too closely and didn’t have her on her leash anymore and started to hear splashing. Since it rained a bit yesterday, there was several inches of water in the “tub” and it was deep green due to the area not being cleaned up yet. Thankfully she didn’t end up smelling too bad afterwards but I was not exactly pleased. But at least she didn’t try to hug me or anything while sopping wet lol.

Tomorrow will be a big day for everyone. Well, maybe not so much for Ayla because she will still be tied up most of the day but we will have 3 friends over to help with the clean up efforts and we should make some good headway. There is lots and lots to be done but we’re hopeful that Ayla will be free to roam by the end of the long weekend.
