Somehow I completely forgot about adding photos to my post yesterday so I will post them now. Must have had a blond moment πŸ™‚

Here’s a photo of our red current harvest. As I said, it came out to about 3.5 kilos which isn’t so bad. We really aren’t sure what we will ultimately do with them but we did use some last year over Christmas in a current relish instead of cranberry relish (cranberries were very scarce) and you couldn’t tell the difference. Thanks to my mom for her great idea there.

Before we bagged up the currents and put them in the freezer, we had the arduous task of removing the berries from the stems. Talk about a mind numbing task. It took us over 2 hours to complete this. Thankfully we did it in front of the TV while watching a couple movies.

It’s incredible just how delicate these little berries are. They crush almost as soon as they come into contact with a hand or spoon when you are trying to get them out of the bowl…much easier still on the stem but at least freezing them simplifies all that too.

These were the cucumbers (left two) and zucchinis that we harvested from the greenhouse. They were extremely tasty last night.

And here are a few photos of our new freezer. It holds 260 liters and we are looking forward to filling it up πŸ™‚ That’s actually part of our agenda today.

Berries occupy most of the space now. We also threw the cold part of our ice cream machine in there and may pick up some ingredients for homemade ice cream soon again. Perhaps there is some current or gooseberry sorbet in our future πŸ™‚
