I came across this article and it gave some simple but good reminders about taking an inventory of personal belongings for insurance purposes. We have an insurance policy for our belongings in an amount that we think would cover everything in the house…but we’re not really all that sure. We’ve meant to do a full inventory for years now but just never really put it on the top of our list of things to get done…so I’m actually going to put it on our list and we’re finally going to do it. This article makes the steps easy enough although the process with writing out things like the serial numbers of products also…not sounding like fun. But maybe if you go one room at a time, doing it in small increments, it wouldn’t be so bad. And I’m of course meaning that both hubby and I will have to suffer through this process. One person brings the laptop, the other talks about the items. I really like the idea about sending the video to yourself online…and think the same would be prudent with other important documents also. Send yourself copies of your birth certificate, marriage certificate, deed, insurance policies and so on. And with services like Gmail offering practically unlimited email storage, you could save and save and save without end. 🙂
