One would think that a dog which weighs over 100 pounds would devour bones in a matter of hours…or maybe days if it’s a huge one like Ayla has now. But not our little Newfers. Ayla has now had her bone for almost two weeks and you can hardly see a change in it. Her breeders brought it with them when they came to visit on April 15th and mentioned then that Ayla’s fur-mommy and fur-sister would have polished that thing off in a day or less. In fact, Ayla’s sister, Aika, started in on an old filled rawhide bone that Ayla had started months before…and was finished with it in less than an hour. I brought out new bones for them since it seemed that Josie, Ayla’s fur-mommy, was wishing she had one also…and Ayla just didn’t know what to do with herself in general…and Aika and Josie almost finished them before they left. They take Ayla about a week because she simply just loses interest after a while.

The picture above was taken this morning. Apparently any time I or S shows interest in the bone, it reminds her that she wants to eat it. Perhaps she’s just trying to get all the contaminated parts off that we’ve touched. πŸ˜‰

The picture below shows what it looked liked when she got the bone. Can you see the difference? Nope. I can verify that she has worked a few pieces of meat off the end so it’s a bit whiter than before…but that’s about it. Maybe we’ll make some more good progress this weekend. πŸ™‚
