We went to the farmer’s market in Hanau Saturday morning (open 7am until 2pm in the market square) and made some really tasty purchases. The weather was beautiful and warm here so we wanted to grill. One of our missions was to find some nice steaks…and we found some T-bones that definitely looked pretty. Nice 1-inch thick slices for the grill, lightly coated with fresh-cracked salt and pepper.
Each steak was about 1 pound, bone in. Wish we’d picked up more than just the two because they turned out to be really good. Still not quite as high a quality as our old butcher but since they have finally lifted the ban on T-Bones here again (don’t ask), we’re going to see if we can’t order some from our guy once a month and just get a whole bunch of steaks and other good stuff when we go visit him.
We picked up 200 grams of porcini mushrooms (Steinpilze) also which were calling out to us at the market along with fresh salad goodies. We sauteed the mushrooms in a bit of butter with onions, some fresh parsley and a splash of white wine. We baked some small potato halves with a touch of olive oil, rock salt and rosemary on them to round things out. It was so good that we were wishing we could repeat it on Sunday night but with no steaks at home, it just wasn’t an option.
