It seems that the slugs are retreating. Over the last few days there haven’t been as many slugs in the beer traps and all the other ones we find seem to be dead. We deduct from this, that our triple play strategy is working out for us. Beer traps, jars of cornmeal and hand picking the slimy little suckers from the underside of wooden boards we have laid out in the garden and their favorite hangouts.
Our neighbor told me that slugs seem to be very abundant in this area but had never heard of the corn meal approach. She is eager to give it a try since I told her we find mostly slug corpses now and all without having to use icky chemicals.
Of course we will need to keep a close eye on the situation, but so far it thinks our short week long assault has reduced their numbers quite drastically.
