Things are progressing nicely in the new kitchen. The stairs are fully formed, about half of the pile of estrich is now on the floor which essentially means that about half of the floor is finished. I don’t envy these guys with this job. It is very hard work which they have to do by hand. They basically take a few shovels full of the estrich, throw it down on the floor and then use a big trowel (flat pieces of metal with a handle on it) pack the stuff down and flatten the surface until it’s smooth.

We have been concerned in the past few days that the water hook ups would be over-looked and I asked the guys about it this morning. We started to figure that they would lay the pipes under the estrich which they did in fact end up doing. Unfortunately, I didn’t really check in on this process enough, though, because they ended up missing the connection for our fridge. We talked with Macky 2 about all the hook-ups last weekend and he wrote a bunch of things on the walls in there but apparently he could no longer remember what he’d written or couldn’t read it or just thought it was an error because he missed that one. But thankfully I was able to remind them of it before the walls began to be finished because Macky now says that it will be no problem to add it on. They will just run it through the drywall and then fill in over it. Good deal. You’ve got to love competent workers.

Anywho, I will be here at the house not quite another 2 hours and then the weekend and hubby’s vacation will officially start. I don’t really know that we can completely view it as a “vacation” since we will probably be working more during this time than we do usually but at least it’s for our own personal causes and not “the man.” lol. It will be interesting to see how far these guys progress today. I’m pretty sure that they’ll finish the estrich layer and then will probably call it a day….I know I would. But the good news is that they are standing on the stuff already so I’m guessing that they will also be able to stand on it tomorrow to install the windows…woohoo!! It will be so different to have heat in the house again that I probably won’t even know how to act. And the best thing about getting the house closed up is that it’s just in time since the temps are supposed to drop even lower in the next few days and we are supposed to finally get SNOW next Thursday!! I’ve never been too excited about snow in the past (although in high school we were always praying for snow delays and cancellations) but now that we have a dog who loves the cold weather, it’s a whole new reason to be interested in it again. 😉
