So, I gave Ayla her Denta-Stix this morning at about 7:45. She was laying outside, just hanging out and I figured this would be a good time for her to enjoy it. About 3 minutes later, I hear a whimper at the back door. Thinking she’s probably just playing with something outside, I let it go. Then she did it again a few seconds later. So I go to the back door and there she stands with the Denta-Stix in her mouth. I let her in, she goes into the living room and is still whining off and on. I don’t know if there’s a problem or she can’t find the right spot or what. So I go in there and straighten up her rug (which is primarily for chewing since it resembles the rug her breeder gave them to destroy as pups) and she lays down for a second then gets up and again and whines. Apparently that spot wasn’t very appropriate. Then she tries out her chair in the living room. Again, that doesn’t really seem to cut it.

I’m starting to feel like I’m living in my own Goldilocks rendition when she goes to the front door. She’s still got the bone in her mouth of course, hasn’t even come close to putting it down and she starts to whimper and look at the leash. It was just about time for a walk anyway (since it’s much cooler out these days, I sort of let her pick the time to go) so I put on her collar and leash for us to get going. She almost let the bone go for a few seconds then because she likes to carry the leash when we walk down the street (but only on the street) but then she realized that would be too complicated to hold both so she gave up on
carrying the leash.

We start off on our walk, her still holding tightly to the bone. Get about 5 minutes out and she takes a quick pee break and then we continue on. By now I was starting to get the feeling that she wasn’t so crazy about carrying the bone around anymore but she still refused to eat it or let me carry it. So we slowly continued on and she stopped to inspect something and dropped the bone. I figured she’d pick it up once she’s identified the smell but she followed along after me. So I went and picked up the bone myself (not just going to let it go to waste after all) and she almost immediately took it from me. We went through this routine a few more times until she apparently gave it up and ate the thing. I was quite happy about this myself because I was starting to think our walk would end up taking an hour or two versus about 30 minutes normally.

It just so happened that she ate the bone right in front of one of the blackberry patches near us. Not sure if this was a coincidence or what but we’d been walking about 10 minutes already with that bone in her mouth so I was happy either way. Since I had taken the camera with us (due to the bone), I actually managed to get a few shots of her eating the berries from the vines. Our camera is not quite fast enough to get her doing a lot of things but there are some decent ones at least. You know how it is – dogs are like children, you have to document every moment you can, especially the bad ones lol.

At the moment, she is running laps around the house. From the living room to the dining room back to the living room and to the entryway; around and around and around. She has has squeeky plush ball in her mouth and has been at it a few minutes now…ok, just pulled the electrical cord out for the laptop, which got a stern “cool it” from me and then she gulped down half of the water in her bowl and laid down next to my chair. She’s looking up at me with one of those big, open mouth sort of grin faces so I guess that means I should wrap this up and show her some luv 😉
