We’ve got gorgeous weather here this week so we’ve been spending hubby’s time off outdoors. We’ve just finished the construction of the raised beds for the garden and just need to level out the dirt in the beds now and eventually add some fresh soil…which we still need to buy. We started the beds yesterday which you can read about here. This morning was the first of many that we haven’t needed a trip to the home improvement store so we got started on the beds nice and early. This allowed us to finish up the other 4 smaller beds in about 6 hours with plenty of breaks and the delivery of the concrete for the greenhouse foundation…which we will start pouring tomorrow morning. We still need to rig up a way to get the pump working so we have running water at the back of the barn instead of having to lug it from the well or rain collection tanks.

We’ve also got quite a little crop of veggies started which we’re looking forward to moving shortly to our new greenhouse. We figure we can pour the foundation tomorrow then go to the Hagebau, home improvement store around the corner, to pick up the wood for the greenhouse among other things so we can start construction on Saturday already. We need to make us many of the cuts on Saturday as possible since we’re supposed to be quiet on Sunday’s and the miter saw is not even close to quiet. But I do think we may be able to get away with some hammering if we don’t start too early. We’ve decided to lay a wooden floor with outdoor flooring over the greenhouse foundation to make it look a bit nicer so we have to work that in somewhere before the full construction of the greenhouse takes place also.

Needless to say, we still have a lot of work in front of us in the coming days. But so far things have been going really well and pretty much according to plan. The realization of just how huge this garden project is really hit us both yesterday afternoon as we relaxed and planned. But there’s no stopping now. We’ve made huge progress so far so if we just continue taking things one step at a time, we’ll get through it all ok.
