Are you itching to change up your home? It’s here, the “new year, new look for my home” time again. Along with the inevitable New Year’s resolutions to exercise and eat healthier, the other thing that can always be expected is new interior design trends. Here you’ll find inspiration and beauty for your home, with new year trends that seem to be popping up everywhere.

Bringing the Outside In

In 2016, along with a lot of natural and earthy tones, expect to see a return to nature in a very real and physical way. Furniture is showing up in a lot of various wood tones, from pantry and storage space, to tables, chairs, light fixtures, and everything in between. Other earthy tones include brass, copper, marble, and stone. We are also seeing indoor gardens and various accent plants throughout all room designs, especially in kitchens and bathrooms, which are unconventional spaces for this type of natural element. And yet, this back to nature component is a nice breath of fresh air and inspiration that is easy to appreciate in any room design.

outdoors comes indoors

We can’t all build and implement living walls into our interior design. However, for a simple way to bring a little bit of a natural element into your space, it can be as simple as browsing this type of website that retails posters and prints of landscapes and wildlife. Hanging a large poster of a natural landscape or plant life can add an attention-grabbing component to a space and bring some of the natural beauty and allure of the outside into your living space. Paired with a simple and tasteful arrangement of house plants, you can create a very similar effect.

Toned Down

One pleasant trend is the toned down element and an almost quiet and artistic minimalism. Space in 2016 is being used rather conservatively, with all “unnecessary” elements being hidden from view. Instead of being cluttered with useless things, space is being kept quite sparse, with decorative elements being retained to a minimum. Any space that is not functional and efficient is kept bare. This return to minimalism and ease is a nice trend, which works well with the natural element, creating a restful oasis free of unnecessary clutter and with the slowed-down appeal of a less “busy” space.

Luxury Bathroom Interior

This trend is achieved well by using books and other practical decorative elements minimally, and always placing them in an area on a counter top or book shelf that is in the most optimal reach. This means leaving higher or lower shelves bare, which are less efficient than the easier to reach shelves. We are also seeing full kitchens being “hidden” by wood paneling in order to hide all of the unnecessary elements in favor of the most bare, minimal space possible.

Ultimately this embracing greenery and minimalism are at the heart of some bigger and better concepts of environmentally friendly homes invested in sustainability. The minimalism also points to a less consumer driven home that counteracts uselessness and waste. These incredibly positive design trends moving forward point to not only to a more beautiful and relaxing 2016, but an even brighter future ahead.
