Lello PastaMaster 3000 / Simac Pastamatic 1400 Review

About four years ago, I decided that I wanted nothing more than a really nice pasta machine for my birthday. Yes, I am one of those practical gift kinda girls. While I love the romantic stuff and things that sparkle, I also fully appreciate a gadget that I can use often and love for many years to come. So I Googled and researched and read every review I could find about pasta machines online. I... read more

The coolest bike I’ve ever seen

We recently bought two old city bikes from our neighbor across the street. He is the bike man — the collector of all bikes within a 10 mile radius, living or deceased. I’m not kidding when I say that this guy has actually rented space from another neighbor around the corner from us just to house all the bikes he has. It must be at least 50 of them, from tiny toddler walk-instead-of-peddle bikes... read more

Sucked in again by impulse buys

I went to IKEA last week with my mom because she wanted to pick up a few goodies that she noticed us using around the house. Two of the things on her list are items that I use all the time and absolutely love: the KONCIS garlic press and the CHARM (now CHOSIGT) cheese grater containers (below). The garlic press has proved to be nearly indestructible, even with the huge garlic cloves we put in it. And the... read more

Savvy tech shopping

I’ve been stalking two items on eBay for the last week or so…a keyboard/mouse to go with the new computer in our bedroom…and a baby monitor. Since we’re internet junkies anyway, we always try to do our research before we buy something. So I scoped out amazon and other sites to see what people had to say; then I hit up the world’s marketplace (eBay) to get the best deal. The... read more

Because every room in the house needs a computer

Here’s a fact that most people may not know about us: my husband and I are geeks…or at the very least dorks. He can build computers, I program websites (he used to as well), we’re tech and gadget junkies. Yep, I would say that makes us pretty dorky in the eyes of most. But for us, it comes in really handy. For example, last Saturday, we stopped in at one of the small computer stores near... read more

A sling for all occasions

I bought a Baby Bjorn Synergy sling on eBay earlier this week and we picked it up from the post office on Saturday. When I decided to try it on, I have to admit I was intimidated. The two pieces were snapped apart and with all the straps to fit here and there, I was concerned this might get more intense than I was looking for. But people online give it great reviews so I made use of my IKEA assembly manual... read more

The Soundtrack of My Life

I have come to believe that I function infinitely better when I have music playing, regardless of what I’m doing. Sometimes I will just turn on the radio and listen to whatever comes on…but since the radio stations here are increasingly lame and geared only towards teenies, I try to avoid that as often as possible. I do sometimes listen to the Armed Forces Network (AFN) which is broadcast from... read more

Build Your Own Tortilla Press

So I was thinking about various gadgets that are great to have in your kitchen and came down the list to the tortilla press. I know for many this would be an absolute waste, but we eat a lot of flour tortillas here (almost weekly taco nights) and at about 25 cents a tortilla (I did just find some on sale for 16 cents – the big ones of course), I have to think that there must be a cheaper way! There... read more

A very cool leash…but not for me :(

We got an email this morning from FunStuffForDogs.com about a pretty snazzy new leash called the BZ Retractable Leash. As you can see, it’s got quite a few bells and whistles, including a built-in flashlight, extra safety collar with reflective tape, a doggie waste bag dispenser and more. Quite nice I’d say. BUT it only is suitable for dogs up to 70 lbs. What about all us other big, beautiful... read more

What we got from Burpee

So I’ve mentioned that we got seeds from Burpee a few times now…and you may be wondering what we ordered…so here goes – it’s a LONG list, I know. But the seeds there cost a fraction of the price here, especially for chili seeds so even with shipping them over here, it’s totally worth it. Plus you can’t find okra seeds here…. We mostly stuck to heirloom... read more
