The second weekend in August we’ll be gone so we can attend the wedding of Stefan’s best friend, Steffen, who also happens to be one of Mackenzie’s godfathers. The guys have been friends for about 18 years (sorry for the correct info lol) and Stefan is one of the best men so we’ll be attending both their civil ceremony in the courthouse and their formal wedding in the church. Since all of this is taking place in Bavaria, they’ve decided to wear traditional dress (or “tracht” as they say in German) for the courthouse ceremony. That meant we needed to do a little shopping for Mackenzie.
Since we live in Hessen where people don’t wear traditional outfits like this (please don’t call them costumes!!), Stefan’s parents volunteered to find Mackenzie’s first “dirndl” (or dress.) They came to visit us for about 2 days last week and brought it with them. What do you think?
Looks like Mackenzie seems to find it cute as well. And the great thing about it is that it can grow with her for the next year or so. Which is extremely good since these clothes are not cheap! There are places were you can let out seams to make the dress longer and the body bigger – it’s all quite ingenious really.
We got her a size 80 (about 9 months) which is the perfect fit for her upper body. She’s been growing like crazy the last couple weeks so hopefully she’ll still fit in there in two weeks. π But at least we’ll be seeing her grandma before the wedding and she knows where all the seams are. I think it should still fit by then, though!
The shop where they got the dirndl is called Christina Zeder, Kindermode im Rathaus. They’re located at Marienplatz 8, with the entrance on Dienerstrasse in Munich. Visit their website: http://www.christine-zeder.de/ This particular “grow with you” dirndl was β¬155.
The dirndl looks wonderful on Mackenzie. When I was in Munich a few weeks ago I looked for some for my girls, but wasn’t able to find any well-made ones. Would you mind passing along the address of that shop, either here or by e-mail? I would like to contact them directly to purchase some.
What a sweet dirndl! I love the cut lace apron. I was very sad when my girls finally outgrew their dirndls. Will have to find a picture and email it to you. Mackenzie looks like a doll!!
Awww, those pictures are so cute. She will be so well dressed for her Godfather’s wedding. But actually….. Steffen and I have known each other for over 18 years – just as another reminder that we are getting old π
@G – How terrible of me to not include the store’s info. Ooops. But I’ve updated the post with all of that so everyone can find them!
@Janet – Don’t you just love dirndls? I do hate how expensive they are though. My MIL has at least 10 of them and I only have 1 and a pair of shorts which I’ve never gotten to wear out…of course living in Hessen there’s just not a good enough excuse to have tons of them! π
@Stefan – Oy…well I was off by 5 years but have duly updated the post lol. And we are definitely getting old. Guess that was wishful thinking lol
Hi Tiffany, your daughter looks so cute in her dirndl!
I had to laugh about the commment that you are getting old. My hubby and I used to tell ourselves that all the time, but we’re at the age now where we can’t say that we’re “getting” old, lol!
Cheers,
Siggie
I always say age is relative. You’re only as old as you feel…unfortunately sometimes the body just can’t keep up! π We all have those moments lol
Mackenzie looks very cute in her Dirndl! Sometimes I’m a tiny little bit sorry that I cannot buy any dresses for the little one π .
I’m surprised that your girl already fits in a size 80. She must be really tall! My son still fits in 74-80 at almost 14 months – well, maybe not surprisingly, my nickname being “the walking metre” π .
She has very LONG legs! Of course so do both her parents so I guess it’s no wonder. We’re hoping she’ll either be a model or maybe a swimmer. Girls’ basketball is another option but we’re not really team players so that’s not likely lol.
