Welcome to No Ordinary Homestead
I’m so glad you’re dropping by, and thanks for reading!
No Ordinary Homestead (NOH) is a lifestyle blog where I regularly post about ways to live a healthier, happier life, marriage, travel experiences, yummy foods, and Gen X life.
I’m Tiffany, the editor-in-chief of this blog, a happy wife for 26 years, mom to an awesome teenager on her way to becoming a commercial pilot, and fur-mom to our two cats and a Great Dane.

Self-Care Habits That Actually Move the Needle
I was perusing the NOH archives recently and came across this vintage post called Ten Ways to Take Care of Yourself. Now wildly dated, my primary goal was to help out my fellow women by offering a few sound words of advice about life and how to survive. My passion remains the same now in […]

Campground Review: Biloxi Bay RV Resort & Marina (Mississippi)
Starting our new travel lifestyle with a calm, coastal New Year’s stop with rules that mattered The time had finally come. Our bricks-and-sticks home in Texas was empty, with all the furniture and extra stuff in storage, and it was starting to get chilly in Texas. Although it was hard to say goodbye to a […]

My husband, Stefan, and I are lucky to be celebrating over two decades together and still going strong. He is not only best friend and my soul mate but also a great mentor who pushes me further and loves a good adventure as much as I do.

Life is full of adventures and unexpected changes. Sometimes we welcome change and other times it blindsides us. I started NOH because I wanted a way to share my experiences with others, especially since I began my life as an expat in Germany.
Now in 2026, I’ve transitioned to sharing more about my Gen X life changes as I approach 50 and we become empty nesters. I’ve got so many things I’m learning about how to hack your body and why you should want to – plus some advice from a married couple who have “been there.”
I can’t wait to share those adventures with you, too.

Why We Stopped Roughing It (And Started Actually Enjoying the Outdoors)
Now that we’re getting older, I can say this. There’s something funny that happens as you age. When you’re 25. you can sit on anything or even sleep on the ground and wake up feeling completely fine the next morning. But at 45? Let’s just say that there’s a reason we switched from tent life […]

The Shirts We Actually Reach For (And Why We Stopped Overthinking It)
There’s a moment on every trip where you realize you packed wrong. Not catastrophically wrong — just subtly. The shirt that felt fine at home turns stiff by hour three. The one you thought would be versatile ends up working for exactly one situation. And somehow, despite bringing enough options, you keep rotating through the […]

Life With a Great Dane: What to Know Before You Adopt a Gentle (and Slightly Unhinged) Giant
We adopted our Great Dane, Claire Danes (formerly known as Shorty), in September 2021 from the Humane Society in Fishers, Indiana. To be clear: We were not looking to adopt a dog. The loss of our Newfoundland, Ayla, a few years earlier was still raw, tender, and very much unresolved. She was a one-of-a-kind sort […]

7 Reasons to Rent A House During Your Next Vacation
We have taken a few vacations over the last decade which really stood out in our minds, many of which involved staying in a rental home. One of those included a beautiful old home just a few blocks from Duval Street in Old Town Key West that allowed us to experience the city in the […]

12 Things We’ve Learned About Owning A Newfie
I can’t believe it. Our Newfoundland girl Ayla is turning 12 years old tomorrow. If you are not familiar with Newfoundlands, they are BIG and they are fluffy and they generally have a life expectancy of 8 to 10 years. This means Ayla is meanwhile a very old lady. But other than being fairly subdued […]

Starting Our Marathon Training Journey (Again)
There’s something both terrifying and thrilling about starting over. You know exactly how much it’s going to hurt — and you can’t wait anyway. This February 28th, 2026, we’ll stand side-by-side again at the starting line of The Woodlands Marathon, just a few miles from home. It will be our second marathon together, more than […]

Our Amazing Kitchen Overhaul
We live in a 1,600 sq. ft. condo in SW Florida. It’s plenty of room for just the three of us but we would like to have more places to store the stuff we have. Our current plans for the next decade or two will hopefully include a whole lot more travel, especially after our […]

Decluttering is hard to do
There are many reasons why people decide to clean out their homes. But whatever your reason is, it’s absolutely a worthwhile cause. With 2016 just around the corner, more stuff coming into your home this Christmas, and undoubtedly a few sluggish days around your home as you recover from overeating, this is the perfect time […]
