Today was another huge day on the guest house. Not only did the electrician hook up the water heater but we also went to IKEA this morning to make sure there was not back ordering needed for the bedroom furniture we had picked out – all good so far!

At home we finished the last of the sanding and beautifying the walls but we also got started on the wall tile in the shower. Neither of us has ever worked with tile before. so we where a bit nervous about this task. Stefan decided to start on the smallest of the shower walls first and thing went relatively smooth from the start. We did run into one problem early on. It came time to cut a tile and I set out to set up the tile cutter we had bought – we have now entered into a time where it is actually cheaper to buy a no name product than renting one for a week. Anyways, you get what you pay for and while setting up the machine the blade that was supposed to be included was not – time for another run to Hagebau.

During my trip to Hagebau, Stefan continued tiling the wall and had about half of it done by the time I returned. We hit another block in the road a little while later, when it came time to cut holes for the plumbing in one of the tile. Not a problem at all using our handy Wall Tile Cutting Kit. It looks a bit dorky, and the electrician looked at us a bit funny, but it couldn’t be any simpler, kind of like using a jigsaw. We love our Dremel – if you don’t have one, buy one now the possibilities are endless!

After placed the tile on the wall we where quite relieved we measured right and the tile fit like a clove. However, while tapping it in place it broke. We discovered a screw head that wasn’t sunk right and suspect that that was the reason the tile broke. We where too tired at this time to cut more holes, so we decided to tile around it and place the tile the next day. We still had quite a bit of tile glue left and we really wanted to see what the border tile would look like on the wall.

Here is where we stand tonight. Stefan is a little bit unhappy about the way he laid out the tile, thinking he should have centered it given the small space. I think it will be fine since the cut tile is in the most invisible place in the shower. In all we are really happy how is coming along, even if it could have been laid out a bit more perfectly. The border tile looks great, we now have an idea of how our color scheme will pan out.

Tomorrow we go on with the walls and a bit of painting – the white is just too much in the rooms, especially the back wall where the bed will be, we need to work on some colors in the morning.
