This morning when Ayla and I went for her walk, we were a bit later than usual and we ended up running into Amelie, the little Golden Retriever living on the corner of the area we walk through, and her non-fur mommy. Amelie is on the tale-end of her first estrus cycle so her play style is a bit different than usual. She’s never really been the best playmate for Ayla because, for starters, Ayla is at least twice her size and Amelie has apparently more or less stopped growing according to her owners. She is an incredibly sweet dog and very well trained but she also has a lot of energy. Unfortunately it’s just not really enough energy to compete with Ayla and Ayla completely overpowers her when it comes to actual play. Amelie can barely even stand for two seconds before Ayla pounces on her and Amelie just rolls over on the ground.

Of course we have a habit of running into them when it’s at peak muddiness outside as it was today since it’s been raining and snowing on and off for the past few days. So by the time the walk is over, Amelie looks a bit like a camouflage dog with green and brown spots all over her. Poor little thing. I guess we’re going to need to start going to doggie playtime soon with other big dogs so Ayla doesn’t get to be the biggest all the time. We found one that meets on Sunday mornings so one of these weekends we are doing to give it a try.

As I sit here typing this, it’s snowing again. Still not sticking to the ground but it’s only 34 degrees outside at the moment. We’re supposed to get up to 37 – big leap there. Tomorrow we should actually have a bit of sun again which will be a nice change. Unfortunately for Ayla there doesn’t seem to be any promise of major amounts of snow anytime soon.
