As announced, we began the task of framing out the foundation, but we have to apologize as we didn’t take nearly as many pictures as we should have.

It turned out that the task of framing out a concrete base is not nearly as easy as one would think. Our ground is quite slanted and therefore it took some doctoring to get the framework 100% leveled. Also, the boards were slightly warped which of course didn’t make life any easier.

We had to put some soil back into the path on one side to get the beds even. So a little more digging was required. The constant lifting also took its toll on our board construction and it turned out that nails alone weren’t strong enough to hold the construction together. We solved this problem by using screws. Tomorrow we will likely brace it a little more with metal brackets to give it more strength – after all, it needs to support the weight of the concrete.

But in the end, we finally got the framing square and level. We’ve dug the trench on the inside and reinforced the outside with soil since we already dug out the trench for the gravel pathway earlier.

If you are looking to build a foundation for your greenhouse or garden shed, check out this tutorial. We have been following them pretty closely and must say even with all the headaches it has given us already today, it really isn’t that much of a mission.
