So we had our first paw to Dremel interaction this weekend. Actually it was more like toe nails to Dremel but you know what I mean ๐Ÿ˜‰ I have to start by saying that I was very skeptical of this type of nail trimming procedure when I first read about it online but I was certainly willing to give it a try. I am not one who would look forward to trimming my dog’s nails where there is a high likelihood I could injure her (trust me, me with those clipper things would certainly result in me cutting into the quick). So after much talk about just getting it done, we finally decided to go for it.

We were very pleasantly surprised that when we “introduced” the Dremel to Ayla, she didn’t seem phased by it at all. We put it up close to her face and no reaction at all really. The noise is relatively quiet so she just seemed to disregard it all together. Then when I started on her nails, she wasn’t crazy about me touching her feet but she wasn’t struggling to get away and never once stood up from her position. She did try to tuck her paws underneath herself a few times but some gentle persuasion with treats did the trick.

I just sanded them down a tiny bit, touching the Dremel with the nail for a few seconds and trying to make sure they were smooth on all sides. It’s really one of the most simple experiences I think I’ve ever encountered. So now that we know how painless the procedure is with her we can at least do it every few weeks now and keep her nails perfectly groomed…for her sake and ours lol.
