It is indeed a good day on the farm. Not only do we have blue sky and sunshine just in time for our party tomorrow night, but the granite man, Dino, has come and delivered our countertop. There has been a few weeks of delay and even though Dino called on Wednesday to tell us they would come Friday “before noon” we didn’t really let ourselves get our hopes up.

They arrived shortly after 11. We had taken care of some chores before breakfast and just got finished with the last bite of scrambled eggs when the two guys from “Casa di Granito” arrived. These guys are fantastic – both of them around 60-65 and as Italian as can be. Just listening to the two of them discussing measurements and the next steps to take is a riot. If you ever had the chance of listening to two aging Italian gentleman talking while having coffee on the piazza you know what we are talking about.

It took them about 2 hours to get everything in there and aligned and it looks fantastic. We couldn’t be happier about how it came out. The granite is so fresh, that it is actually still a bit moist – we found out our countertop was still attached to a mountain this time last week. They actually finished it yesterday and drove it all the way from Italy over night. The best part came in the end when we were handed the final bill. Instead of 2188EUR as quoted before it actually came out to only 1793EUR – the only thing in this house which came in cheaper than it was quoted.

It’s only been a few minutes since the guys left but so far it hasn’t sunk in yet that we have a fully functional kitchen now. Much like when we first moved in this house when we often found ourselves thinking “Wow, this is our farm,” we now have the same, going “wow, we have a countertop”. It wasn’t terrible having only cardboard and a camping cooker for the past 3 months, but it was neither nice to look at nor sanitary – so I am sure neither of us will miss it very much!
