It seems that around here there is a practice project for every one of our major renovation projects. For example, the lower wall by the front door is in dire need of new plaster. It’s a major project and of course very visible to everyone entering our house so we where a bit apprehensive to get started on that. As it turns out, we found ourselves a little practice project for this: The wall in the former bird coop where years of uhm, bird nitrates, have made the plaster come down. More on this project later.

This experience made us think though. Basically for every major project around here, there is a practice project. The next “big project”, and aren’t they all, we intend to start is the build out of the horse stables. Now we realized though, there is another practice project for that as well: Finishing out the mud room. Most of the infrastructure is already there, such as piping and electricity. So here we get to practice our drywalling skills as well as laying tile.

I guess the point of this post is, if you look hard enough there is smaller projects where you can practice your skills before moving on to something where it will be in the public eye so to speak. Definitely a good thing for two people who have no real handyman skills but a lot of enthusiasm like us. Happy renovating everyone!
