If you read our Self-Reliant Yuppies blog, you probably noticed that we are going to be starting a new weekly feature (at least I’ll be trying lol) featuring the 5 top searches from the past week. We don’t really get too many strange ones but I always do find them interesting. You just never know what will pop up 🙂

  1. Farm house in Germany

Yes, you found us. We have one of those 🙂

If you’re trying to find one for yourself, I’d recommend www.immoscout24.de (yep, it’s in German). You can find houses in any location you wish and you can narrow the house to “bauernhaus” (farmhouse) which should point you in the right direction.

  2. Germany stevia farmWell we grow stevia on our farm…but that’s not to say we’re attempting wide scale production! These are our plants below. They aren’t a whole lot larger than that now…in fact 3 of them are dead because they were re-potted in pots that did not drain well…and apparently they need that desperately.

  3. stevia seeds Germany

I would like to state for the record that if you actually do try to grow stevia from seeds, you will probably be very disappointed. We certainly were. Stevia seeds look very much like dandelion seeds – you know the tiny ones with little hairs on top that blow in the wind for days? They are very hard to get sprouted and there is no guarantee that you will end up with a sweet-leaved plant. Save yourself some hassle and headache and just go to www.exoga.de and order stevia seedlings. They have lots of other really cool and strange plants there as well. Plus they have very fast shipping and you will very likely get your plants within 2 days of ordering. The photo above is of our seedlings from exoga when they first arrived.
  4. window frostingI have done a bit of that around here 🙂 I actually used a film coating from IKEA called AMORF Frost which works very well when you get the hang of it. Perhaps there are other brands out there that might go on easier but this is cheap and I can’t really tell the difference. I have a few bubbles here and there but that’s just because I didn’t spend hours doing it but rather was on the phone during part of the process…and they still look great to me! To read more about the process and see a few photos, take a look at our post here.
  5. IKEA DomsjöTo be honest, we actually have this search popping up on here quite a bit. I’m not sure if people are looking for photos of it or about the installation process or what…but we do in fact have one (a double sink) and LOVE it. Here it is installed with our new granite counters!

If you are looking for installation instructions for the IKEA cabinet which will support the sink, take a look in the sink box. For some reason they hid ours in the sink box which was very confusing but at least they were on top of the sink.

If you are wondering if it’s hard to keep clean, not at all. I use a coarse sponge which is safe for glasses on the sink every few days and it stays very clean. I’m sure something like Comet would work on it as well but I would be careful with anything too abrasive since you could slowly start wearing off the finish.

One thing to note: when we had our counters installed last week, the installer was moaning and groaning that the sink was already there and hooked up. But anyone who has one of these sinks or has seen the sink before will likely notice that there are little grooves that run under the sides of the sink as well as a lip in front that needs to be cut out of the counter. They had to lift the sink when they put each side of the counter in and wedge the counter into place because the sink actually sits on the counter and supports some of its weight on there and not just the little metal beams built into the IKEA cabinet underneath. I suppose you could still just set the sink down on top of the counter after it is in, but do be sure that you have carefully measured the cutouts first before you secure the counter. We also opted to have our counter come out from the cabinets 4 cm instead of the usual 2 so that it is flush with the front of the sink. This ended up looking really nice and gives you just a tiny bit more workspace which is never a bad thing.

Until next time, happy searching!
