It is with great regret and remorse that I notify all of you about the passing of Ayla’s newest friend, Buddy. He had a short life with us, arriving to our home on August 10th, 2007.
In this photo taken August 11th, Buddy was still showing his signs of youthfulness and joy to have found a loving new home. But alas, after just two short weeks, a very aggressive illness seemed to be taking over him and Ayla had to amputate one of this legs.
We felt he might survive as the cotton bleeding stopped once his leg was empty and the illness did not seem that it would spread as the leg was sewn off from the rest of his body – a brilliant feature from the stuffie manufacturers. But yesterday, I went outside to find pieces of Buddy strewn all around the courtyard and his little body was empty. A tragic ending for such a young friend. May he find kinder, gentler friends at the stuffie Rainbow Bridge.
A few months ago I might have taken pity on him and sewn him back together..but I now understand that Ayla simply will not let these stuffies with thin skins live. They cannot hold up to her chewing and tugging antics and while the stitches would give him a nearly new start, I know what the outcome will be and just can’t face another sad ending like that.
Note to self: no more stuffies with thin plush coverings. They are no much for this Newf!! Toys will become rubber and not so cute and cuddly but will hopefully have a longer lifespan in return.
I feel your pain.. I’ve sewn a lot of favorite friends back together.. three bullmastiffs can create a lot of fluff!
Go for the Fat Cat Toys.. the Dirty Rotten Kittys or the trout and snake.. they have lasted 2 years in our house..
Thanks for the tip! We’ll have to check them out. They have some really cute stuff to say the least!

That makes me laugh. We have the same trouble with toys here. She even eats kongs, given enough time. We may try the Kong ball…
She eats kongs?! Wow! This ball is pretty solid and they claim on the package that it’s chew resistant but they always say that don’t they? ๐

We have a tough time keeping stuffies alive with Mitch around here now! We agree with fuzzy logic about the Fat Cat toys! We have 4 of them and they’re all alive and well!
Love ya lots,
Maggie
