Christmas is just around the corner and, wherever you decide to spend it, it’s full of festive spirit, great vibes and quality time. While many people will opt to stay at home, knee-deep with Christmas food and presents for everyone, others will choose to head off on a city break to spend the festivities with their other half and who can blame them? There’s something to be said about getting away from it all, without succumbing to the pressures of commercialism and just taking the opportunity to enjoy the time that you have with your loved ones.

If you’re fancying a trip to Dublin at some point over the Christmas period, you won’t be disappointed. With so much to see and do in the Irish capital, you can guarantee that you’ll find something within the city that will keep your festive spirits sky-high. Book into one of Travelodge’s Dublin hotels and you will be perfectly placed to enjoy what’s in store; here are five things you shouldn’t miss!

1. Airtricity Dockland’s Christmas Festival

Now in its 9th consecutive year, the Dockland’s Christmas festival continues to live up to expectations every year and 2013 is no different. With plenty of Christmas cheer and festive delights to go around, anyone visiting the city will be in for a real treat. Located in George’s Dock, in the heart of the city, there’s a whole host of goodies in store, including an entertainment area, Santa’s grotto and the Victorian Carnival, which will all help to make your festive season as joyous as possible.

2. Wicked: The Musical

The Broadway and West End hit can be found at the Energy Theatre in the Docklands between the 27th November and the 18th January. If you haven’t had the opportunity to catch this award-winning, heart-warming and spellbinding musical yet, take advantage of the tour and reserve your seats at one of the shows which coincide with your visit.

3. Sleeping Beauty

Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a customary panto and Sleeping Beauty, which can be found at The Helix between the 29th November and the 12th January, is one of the best in Dublin this year. Featuring all of your fave panto characters, Sleeping Beauty will be a hit with audiences of all ages as they wait to shout “she’s behind you!” at the first opportunity they get.

4. Annabelle’s Star

Perfect if you’re travelling to the city with youngsters, Annabelle’s Star is a play that will appeal to children aged between 4 and 8. Presented at The Ark between the 26th November and the 23rd December, it tells the enthralling story of Annabelle as she learns to realise what love and happiness are all about.

5. Dundrum Ice Skating

As Dublin’s only real ice rink, Dundrum’s ice spectacular opened in October and it continues right through Christmas, so no matter when you visit the city over the Christmas period, you can take the opportunity to get your skates on and give it a go!

With affordable hotels in the heart of Dublin, a city break certainly isn’t out of the question this Christmas.
