There are two Newfoundlands in our little village aside from Ayla. We have met one of them, Jule, a few times on the street but never been able to play with her. But today, as Ayla and I started out on the path for our morning walk, I saw Jule running to catch up with her master in front of us and thought they might not wait for us…but they did and the two of them hit it off immediately. It was like they had been playing together for years and just new that, since they’re both Newfs, there was no reason to have any qualms about really letting loose. They were playing in the fields during the entire walk and we were joined by another black dog named Kira who seems to be something along the lines of a Border Collie. The three of them were running around like mad and Kira was teaching Ayla even more bad habits of running through the wheat fields (something that Jule is trained VERY well not to do).

Jule is 4 years old and 40 kg (88 lbs)…relatively small for a Newf in our opinion and we definitely hope Ayla will get bigger. Her mother is somewhere around 55 kg (120 lbs) and father 72 (160 lbs) (don’t hold me to these numbers) so we’re hoping Ayla will average out around 60 kg (130 lbs) lol. Why on earth would we want her to be HUGE? Well, she’s a Newf after all and we don’t want people to mistake her for a lab or something lol.

Needless to say, after running almost non-stop during this “walk,” Ayla was completely exhausted at the end. She was pulling on her lead to get home as quickly as possible – something she rarely does anymore. Perhaps it was just because she really wanted some water, although she didn’t seem to want to drink much of it once we got home and didn’t want her ice cube…but at the moment she is apparently trying to find the “perfect spot” on the dining room tiles and has changed places at least 5 times already. Jule’s non-fur mommy thought Ayla was still raring to go after all that play and since she was tugging on her line…but I know that simply means she’s exhausted…which is also what her changing places so many times means. She’s still in a toddler phase after all and we all know they’re not so keen on laying down to take a nap, no matter how tired you know they are. So I guess we’ll see just how long this nap now is going to last lol. I’m thinking she won’t be moving much until lunch and then it will only be because she can’t possibly pass up free food 😉
