As you’ve likely read by now, we are very excited about ending our Germany phase of life and heading back to the US for a while.  Although it’s going to be very different and there will certainly be new challenges, it’s something we have talked about and dreamed about since the day we left Miami.

All of us have dreams and goals that we hope to accomplish one day. But what are you doing to actually make those dreams come true? Have you always talked about having your own business, writing a book or starting a new website? What is holding you back and why haven’t you gotten started yet? Yes, there are many things in life that might come between us and our goals, but we’ve got to set priorities and determine what is the most important for success.

No one has enough hours in the day to accomplish everything that pops up in life. I’m definitely no different and continuously struggle with trying to focus on the things that will help me achieve my goals and be successful rather than getting caught up in the mundane stuff. I’m not saying to stop paying your bills or ignore your kids — but it is important to make daily choices that help you succeed, whether it is answering emails that will make money first, taking care of important phone calls or checking something off your list that allows you to take a baby step toward accomplishing your goals.

Perhaps when you figure out what it is that you want in your life, you realize that funding is an issue. There’s a lot of things you can do, from selling your belongings on eBay (I’m not kidding when I say we sold enough stuff in the last 4 months to pay our car note for a year) to taking a part-time job. There’s a lot of time wound up in those options, of course, and many families get low interest loans to cover costs while they are getting things off the ground. You absolutely should think through any decision you are about to make and go with the option that best suits you, your family and your situation.

A priority of following your dreams always needs to be accountability, whether you’ve got people you know personally, a group in a forum, blog readers or something else entirely. It’s important that you not only set obtainable goals, but that you tell others about them. It not only makes you more likely to accomplish your goals because you don’t want to fail, but hopefully those friends and family can also help give you some encouragement and motivation. And if you know they will only say discouraging things, do yourself a favor and don’t share your dreams with them until you’ve accomplished things. The last thing you want to surround yourself with is nay-sayers and negativity.

So what are you going to do today that will help you focus on your priorities, tackle your dreams and accomplish those goals?
