This past Tuesday, I had the absolute pleasure of visiting the headquarters of kiddy GmbH in Hof, Bavaria. I’ve mentioned a few times that their great car seats did wonders to protect Mackenzie in our crash last year…but I never could have anticipated that the people working there are just as fantastic as the seats themselves.

I was able to get an up close and personal look at the R&D facilities and saw simulated crash tests in action. I have to admit that sitting there watching the graphic of 3-year-old-sized crash test dummy in different impact situations still made a me a bit uneasy. On the other hand, after seeing all the testing and development that they do on every seat, I know that we made the best decision possible when we were looking for Mack’s second car seat. And if we had to select another infant seat now for a child, we would never have gone with the one we got.

I won’t mention any names but it was a US based company and the look on the face of the head of marketing from kiddy US when I was talking about our first infant seat was enough to make my stomach turn. There really is no reason to take chances with your child’s life. No one ever wants to have to use one of these seats to survive a car crash…but could you forgive yourself if your child was badly injured or died in an accident because of a poorly constructed seat?

In the last couple years, they have made their already great car seats even better. That’s hard to imagine, but they have made the kiddy impact shield (the cushion that goes across your child’s lap) better at absorbing the energy of the crash which helps prevent neck injuries to your child. And even though they have achieved 100% absorption of this energy, they are still working in their simulations to make the shield even better.

The product line of kiddy is so much more than just car seats, though. One of the things that I really liked about their seats when we were shopping around, was the fact that you can get several very practical add-ons for your kiddy seat. Like the kiddy clima which will help your kiddo stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The reversible seat insert also can be plugged into a cigarette lighter during the winter to allow your child to be comfortable in the car seat without bulky jackets causing an safety hazards.

But kiddy isn’t just about car seats. They also make some really nice strollers with fun new colors. In fact, I’ll be talking a whole lot more about this particular stroller, the click n move 2, very soon since we get to test one out ourselves.

Up until now, kiddy has primarily been focusing on European expansion and also a bit in Asia…and I don’t want to give too much away, but at the moment there is only one stroller (albeit a few cool one) available for sale in the US. But over the next twelve months, the product line in the US is going to multiply several times over. So if you’re about to be in the market for a new stroller or car seat, stay tuned for lots more talk about what to look out for.
