Today has been quite a day and from the start it just felt a bit off. I guess I probably should have just gone back to bed but somehow it didn’t seem like it would be all that bad until the day progressed….actually, I guess it kind of started last night when I was eating some munchies and I broke out a big portion of a filling in my mouth. I’m not in any pain or anything but I don’t want to spend the entire holidays with this thing in danger of falling out and then I will be in pain.

I went to the farm this morning to see what had been done on the new kitchen & how the floors were looking since they were supposed to be lacquered yesterday. But it turns out our lead contractor’s brother, who we call “Macky 2″ since the first one is just “Macky” (they come from Croatia and have a rather complex last name) is sick and won’t be able to work for a few days which is the bad news. From the looks of things, I’m pretty sure he wasn’t there yesterday either.

So I packed up my stuff and Ayla and went out to the Defender…where I found out I forgot to screw on my gas cap this morning when I stopped for gas…and it was no where to be found. So I drove home, checked the gas station I had stopped at this morning to see if by some miracle someone had found it (no luck) and drove home to start the search for a replacement. Thankfully there is a Land Rover dealership about 20 minutes from here and they happened to have one in stock…for the bargain price of €48. I also ordered a 2nd one already just in case I do something stupid again and I will keep it in the truck with me at all times. You never know what could happen and you certainly don’t want to be without one. At least the 2nd one only cost €30.

I’ve also been trying to get an appointment with a dentist so I can get this filling fixed. The first place I called which a friend recommended has no available appointments until January. The receptionist did tell me that if I was in pain she could get me in sooner but since I’m not and it is almost Christmas, I decided not to tempt fate or karma. The last thing I want is to actually end up in pain. So hubby recommended a guy he used to go to when he was a kid and I can see him next Thursday…which means I have to be a bit careful until then or mess it up good so I am in pain and can see the other guy…oi vey.

I’ve not exactly been overly enthused about starting multiple projects today so I decided I would vacuum the floor because it’s beginning to look like a beach in here. While that is rather fun & could be cool with some lounge chairs, my mom is coming in less than a week and hubby’s parents will also be here in a little over a week for the holidays and I figured I better start on the first round of what will be many cleanings before they get here since there is dirt on everything.

Ayla “played” with me and the vacuum while we were downstairs and then I took it upstairs to the cat habitat and started cleaning up there. Doggo wanted to come with me but the vacuum is traumatizing enough to the cats so I told her to wait for me downstairs. I guess she was mad at me because when I turned off the vacuum for a few moments to plug it into another room, I heard her tearing something.

I raced downstairs to find both of the sponges from the kitchen on the floor and various pieces of our wedding cake topper. She was actually tearing the little veil part of it which is what I heard. She picked up the base when I came into the living room and started running around with it…which caused me to corner her behind the sofa and push it towards her. She thinks this traps her completely but if she were to try she would easily get away…but we won’t share that with her at the moment. To say I was not amused is an understatement. I took a picture of it just so I can one day look back on it and laugh…and at least cause everyone reading this some bit of enjoyment.

As you can see, she decapitated both of us, broke hubby’s arm and tried to eat my bouquet. There were also two babies hidden in the bottom of the topper, one of which she apparently ate before I got to her. Poor kid. One of the things I kept wondering as I was cleaning it up was, is this supposed to be a sign? Does she want to kill us? Is she going to gang up on us with the cats?? Do they just pretend to hate each other but in reality they are plotting against us? 😉

I digress. So why was this just laying around if it’s sooo important, you’re asking? It was placed on one of the shelves in the piano room which she has recently gained access to. I’ve mentioned this room quite a bit lately, especially in association with her trashing things, but never called it the piano room I think…but there is actually a piano in it. So I have officially decided that today I will start packing up everything in that room which is within her reach and then we won’t have to worry about it anymore. We’ll fix her wagon as we like to say in the South. 😉

To add insult to injury, I went into the kitchen after collecting all the pieces that I could of the topper and started rooting around in the fridge, only to knock the Parmesan cheese container out, emptying the contents on the freshly vacuumed floor. Great. Maybe I should just go back to bed or something. Thank God tomorrow is FRIDAY!!
