Our assignment this week was “flowers” — and I have to admit that this was an easy one since we have been buying a lot of flowers at the market lately to liven up the place…and because they are utterly cheap! The guys selling them at the market buy such a large volume that they’re able to offer 30-40 roses for EUR 5 when it’s getting late in the afternoon. So we always try to head over there before the market shuts down to get a really good deal.

There’s something really beautiful about cut flowers, even though they have to be thrown away in about a week. And we’re learning new things about certain flowers as well. Like how beautiful gladiolas are and that you should pinch an uppermost bud to get them to open up quickly. I didn’t do it because they still opened beautifully — but it’s definitely something I’m keeping in mind. 🙂

I also realized that I have quite a few things with flowers sitting around me on a regular basis… like this little plate I found in our attic at the farm but use a coaster on my desk.

And the flowers in the hair of my Geisha doll who has finally been released from a packing box after 11+ years of being cooped up in there.

And strange little knit flowers like the ones on Mackenzie’s little monster keyring, which is cute yet also kinda scary.

Have you taken time to stop and notice the flowers lately?
