Sometime during the day tomorrow, our new refrigerator will be arriving. We found a side-by-side we like for less than €1,000 which was generally our goal. As it turns out, it’s the cheapest and pretty much the one we liked the most anyway so we’re quite pleased. I don’t have a photo for you yet since the ones on the manufacturers website are teeny, but tomorrow you will get a nice big one of it here in our kitchen.

The fridge is made by Haier Electronics (sold as HEC in the store) which I’ve honestly never heard of but they’re apparently out of Hong Kong (shocking, no?) and seem to be pushing some decent home appliances onto the market for low prices. It comes with a standard two year warranty so at least I’m not completely concerned and it is very nice looking inside and out with features like no frost, an in-door ice and water dispenser, a reach through “bar” door into the main fridge for drinks and nice clear fronts on the door shelving. I guess we’ll just play the guinea pigs and see how it goes πŸ™‚

I think we’re both really looking forward to having it here. You never realize how huge of a necessity a fridge becomes until you don’t have one. When Stefan and I first moved over here, we had no fridge for several months because the apartment we were renting didn’t include one and we couldn’t afford to buy a kitchen…so we iced down drinks in the bathroom sink when it got really, really hot…which didn’t make much impact. πŸ™‚ Now our concern is just what about dinner. You can’t really buy anything to make for dinner when you only have a tiny fridge to store things in until you prepare it…and that fridge is full of condiments that came out of your dead fridge. But we are very thankful we at least had that fridge to hold us over…and it’s only a matter of hours now before we can start enjoying our new fridge…I wonder how long it will take the dog to figure out how to dispense her own ice cubes? πŸ˜‰
