Last year we had to buy a new fridge because the small one we moved here with died on us. Not that we were too upset about it. We were looking for an excuse to buy a side-by-side anyway…but now our washing/drying machine from Siemens has encountered a problem. It’s an all-in-one machine where the dryer is built into the washing machine which are quite common over here in Germany. At first we thought the problem was that water wasn’t coming into the system. So I cleaned the little filter at the back…and it still didn’t run. So then I tried going through the various wash cycles and realized that the drum isn’t turning. Great.
A few days ago I found a really good site about what the problems could be…but I lost it. It had photos of the brushes and belts and all those other good things that could be the issue. Needless to say, we’re really hoping the problem is something minor, especially since everything else seems to be in working order still. We have a repairman coming out on Wednesday morning and I’ll be watching to see what he does exactly so we might be able to do the next repair ourselves…and I’ll let you know how it turns out after the guy has been here.

I used this site to replace solenoids in my close-to-antique Maytag dryer. Hmmm…that might not help you if this is a European flavored appliance though… It IS a good reference for basic troubleshooting or to give you a better idea of how said appliance works. Good luck!
Hi Tara,
You’re right, that is a pretty good site. I just glanced over their suggestions of what the problem might be and there are plenty of potential issues – but after most of them they said to call a technician so that makes me feel a bit better at least…we were wondering if we might be able to do it ourselves but since we couldn’t even determine how to get the machine open, that just didn’t seem wise lol.
