Today went better than expected. We had very few accidents in the house which means I must have really been paying attention and we had some ok play time too. It seems that just when I start getting bored with the toys, she gets sleepy so that’s a good thing I guess. Definitely going to have stock up on some new things to chew on but at least now we know what she’ll play with and what she won’t so we have a good direction to go in. Basically anything resembling a tennis ball (gonna try some of those tennis bones and such soon), anything squishy, anything that makes noise or things that have food in them make us very happy.

Ayla under the table

When the hubby woke up this am to get ready for work, he took Ayla out to do her business. We put her back in the crate afterwards so I could iron his shirt and attempt to go back to sleep but that didn’t really work at all. She was pretty hyper when she came out of there again and we had a light play session before breakfast to try to burn off some energy without risking any bloat problems.

She’s wolfing the food down and seems to be hungry all the time so we’re boosting the feeding to 220g a day from 200g. Maybe she’ll stop trying to bowl me over when it’s feeding time now but somehow it doesn’t seem overly likely. But we’re almost at the peak of recommended feeding already so I guess we see how things go and at least we can still give her lots of treats since she’s a hyperactive little thing. Good thing she sleeps a lot or she might end up only skin and bones.

We also had our first visit to the vet today just for a preliminary check-up. The vet is certainly no people person but she seems to know what she’s doing and she came highly recommended so we’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. Everything was in order except slightly runny eyes so we’ve got some “holistic” eye drops now and have to go back again next week. Joy.

The car ride to and from the vet went by mostly painlessly. She was a bit fussy when I was programming the navigation system but once we got moving, she settled down. It was pretty warm in the vet’s office so when we got out I gave Ayla some water in a plastic cup. Of course I have to tilt the cup to let her get her snout in there to drink which is quite amusing and gets water all over her chin (like she needs help with that). But when we came home and she went to drink out of the water bowl in the yard, she used her foot to tip it on its side so she could drink out of it…of course she doesn’t need to do that at all and has been drinking fine from it for days but it’s probably more fun this way. Even when I set it back upright, she takes her paw and lays it on its side before drinking…crazy dog.
