So we’re still feeling some of that “wow, we have a puppy” shock from time to time but it’s getting a lot less. We are crating Ayla at night so we can all get some sleep and we had a 2:30am wake up call this morning which wasn’t exactly fun…especially when we got out there and she didn’t have to pee or anything. We’re definitely looking forward to warmer weather already goes going outside in your pajamas is just not working when it’s about 40 degrees outside. Ayla loves it of course which makes her want to stay outside longer…but that’s not gonna happen at that time of the morning.

Our next wake up call came at about 6am I guess. Not the most unbearable time to wake up but I’d still rather sleep a bit later on a Sunday…especially after being awakened at 2:30 lol This time it was no false alarm and we did managed to squeeze a few more hours of sleep in after that potty break but it was kinda restless and we probably would have been better off without it.

We decided to take on our first backyard project of the season in between Newfie naps. We have a patio outside our kitchen which is composed of large square brick pavers. Turns out there were tons more of these things buried in our yard (according to the previous renters) and there is a big stack of them just sitting in the yard now…so we figured we might as well put them to good use. We cleaned up a bunch of weeds and removed a “rock garden” (which was promptly turned into a French drain) and have created a nice platform now for our Weber grill which is out of the way of Newfie traffic and very functional.

The weather was gorgeous today so we spent a lot of time just lounging on the patio as well and thinking about the sleep we lost overnight. But in spite of ourselves we had a really productive day and the Newfie just loves the yard. You’ve got to love a little fuzzy black creature who will be running in circles one minute and totally passed out the next. Should be interesting when that sleep/play ratio starts to deviate more in the play time’s favor…yikes!
