So Ayla and I left for the walk at about 7:45 as promised. She was much calmer this time and we took the long way down the street. She did take the leash in her mouth but only tugged a little and was rather well behaved in general. Perhaps when she was “asking” to go earlier, she was just so excited and wound up that it was only inevitable that she would go crazy on the way down the street. On the other hand, if she starts getting the point that she can’t act like a psycho on the street and expect to have a nice walk, off leash, then we have made some serious progress.

In the recent past, when she gets really nutso with us while walking on the street, I will leave her on the leash for a large portion of the walk to communicate to her that this sort of behavior is not acceptable. I’m not really sure if she has made the connection yet but I guess between the returning home (which I know is sort of avoiding the problem but I think occassionally this could get her attention at least since she then has to wait at least 15 minutes before we go out again and this at least gives her some time to calm down) and keeping her on leash and perhaps a few other things, we will finally be able to get past the crazy street walking before we move away from here 😉
